NCIBI Subcontractors

Partnership between The National Center for Integrative Biomedical Informatics and The Research Centers in Minority Institutions Translational Research Network

Since June 2008, the National Center for Integrative Biomedical Informatics (NCIBI) has been interacting with the leadership of the Research Centers in Minority Institutions (RCMI) Translational Research Network (RTRN) Bioinformatics and Computational Biology Working Group to identify mechanisms to build and/or strengthen research collaborations on integrative biomedical informatics between RCMI and NCIBI. The overall vision of the NCIBI/RTRN partnership is to continually present RTRN investigators with biomedical computing and informatics resources and tools and associated training pertinent to advancing their studies, strengthening their collaborative initiatives and inciting additional research ideas.

The NCIBI training activities to be organized by Jackson State University will be directed to students, postdoctoral trainees and investigators primarily among the RCMI Translational Research Networks, all of which are PhD granting institutions. Four activities are proposed: Translational Research Education Training Series (TRETS); Targeted Infusion of NCIBI Research Outputs into Classroom Lectures; NCIBI-Jackson State University-Hunter College Bioinformatics Seminar Video Conferences; and NCIBI/RTRN Tools Workshop at RCMI International Symposia on Health Disparities

Computing and Data Infrastructure to support NCIBI development and its growing user community.

The overall goal of this project is to extend the national outreach for NCIBI. The specific aims for the DTCC subcontract are to 1) provide increased awareness of the NCIBI tools to the RTRN community; 2) increase effectiveness and efficiency of the TRANCHE and ProteomeCommons.org sites; and 3) provide RTRN researchers with a customized website for access and use of the integrated TRANCHE and ProteomeCommons.org mirror site(s) and related tools developed or identified throughout the project. This project will leverage a recent award from the NIH to expand the computing infrastructure at DTCC to serve the RTRN research and education community.
