Neil Warner, Ph.D.
Dr. Neil Warner is a Post Doctoral Research Fellow at the University of Michigan's Department of Pathology. His current research "is focused on investigating both normal signal transduction events downstream of Nod-like receptors and their disruption in diseased states." "In particular, I'm undertaking both biochemical and genetics approaches to identify and characterize novel regulators of Nod2, a NLR (Nod-like receptors) family member known to be deregulated in a variety of inflammatory disorders including Crohn's disease and Blau Syndrome.
Dr. Warner discovered NCIBI and its tools using Internet searches and reading about them in the scientific literature (see NCIBI Publications). His experience with the Osprey Network Visualization System led him to seek expertise in Michigan which is a criterion that he used in his initial searches on interaction networks. He found an article on the Michigan Molecular Interactions (MiMI) tool which directed him to further information on the rest of the NCIBI tools suite..
Dr. Warner currently uses MiMI and ConceptGen to identify relationships between genes and enrich for clusters of genes that are statistically overrepresented in that particular set and that are likely, therefore, to be of biological interest or importance to him. "I intend on using the tools to help me focus on a small number of genes for in-depth analysis in cell based studies by providing relevant functional information that will allow me to formulate testable hypotheses." Dr. Warner is working with the developers of the tools and NCIBI's Core 5 Director to maximize his research efforts and to drive further tools development.
